My grandma, Ann, wasn’t rich. She wasn’t famous. But to me, she was one of the strongest women I’ve ever known. She had a heart that made room for everyone, and if you needed help, she was there without hesitation. She gave so much of herself to others, and somehow she always found a way to make people feel loved.

When I was growing up, I was one of the only grandkids who would wake up before the sun came up and go with her while she cleaned houses. At the time, I thought I was just spending time with my grandma. Looking back now, I realize she was building something inside of me that money could never buy.

She taught me that hard work isn’t something you complain about—it’s something you take pride in. She taught me that serving people is an act of love. She taught me that your name is your reputation, so whatever you do, do it with integrity.
